This truly delicious dish can be prepared with any additives that emphasize or enhance the taste.
How do you store bread? The freezer is a great method, but before freezers, people store bread by drying it. Thus, you can store it for a very long time – a year or more. So that the bread dries well and does not moldy, it should be cut into cubes and dried in a cloth bag or a bowl covered with a kitchen towel. Then at any time you can cook traditional Danish porridge for breakfast from rye bread.
- Rye bread, cubes – 250 g
- Water – 500 ml
- Peel and juice ¼ lemon
- Honey, maple or any other syrup you prefer – 50 ml
- Cardamom, cinnamon and vanilla – to taste
You can also add cream, yogurt, milk, compote, grated chocolate, nuts or seeds to porridge.
The bread should be soaked overnight in 500 ml of water. In the morning, the mixture should come to a boil, then beat after 2 minutes so that the bread turns into porridge. Whisk lemon juice with peel, as well as honey, maple or any other syrup to taste, add spices.
Serve the porridge warm with cream, yogurt or milk.
